This is a historical look at the development of ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC as a means of protecting the rights of songwriters and performers for live and recorded performance. Copyright law will be reviewed, including a review of pending requests to Congress for changes in existing legislation. The presentation concludes with a discussion of implications for tasting rooms, bars, and restaurants when providing live or recorded performances during hours of operation and special events.
