Therese Kanai, PhD

I have been involved in the field of education for over twenty years. I received my MA in Education from Heritage College and earned a Ph.D. in Education from Walden University. While working on my degrees I continued to teach at Konawaena High School and took on responsibilities as head class advisor, started a G/T program, designed the beginnings of their network, graduated from the DOE T3 program, and served as the Mathematics Department Chairperson. When Kealakehe High School opened I was the Technology Coordinator and Registrar. This position afforded me an opportunity to learn all the aspects of running both an NT 4.0 and Mac Schools Networks. This gave me first-hand experience of the workings of an organizational system. It was a challenging position and the experience was beneficial. Before leaving the DOE I took on a position as an administrator for the Title 1 Program. This responsibility gave me an opportunity to run a program and managing state and federal funds. I also taught Special Education Math which offered me yet another way to implement instruction. Currently I teach Online at the post-graduate level focusing on teaching and publishing. Online education is the way for the future.
