I am a board-certified music therapist, specializing in stress and pain management in medical settings. I serve as a music therapy consultant to Lake Health in northeast Ohio, where I manage the music therapy program and conduct music therapy research investigations. I investigated health-related outcomes of music therapy in cardiac rehabilitation and diabetes education, and the effect of music therapy on patient satisfaction of inpatients. I am currently investigating the effect of music therapy on patient satisfaction of emergency department patients. The current study was funded by the Kulas Foundation, Lake Health, and Lake Health Foundation.
My doctoral curriculum focused on mind-body studies and music therapy research. Valuing the opportunities offered by online learning, I joined the University of Phoenix faculty in 2007, but it was when I connected with the School of Advanced Studies in 2010 that I found my academic home. I enjoy serving as dissertation chair for students and teaching doctoral research courses, currently serving as a university research methodologist. I co-authored a self-help book and accompanying CD with Dr. Suzanne Hanser, Manage Your Stress and Pain Through Music, published by Berklee Press and distributed by Hal Leonard, and produced a compact disc recording with Daniel Kobialka, Harmony of Mind & Body: A MARI Experience. I have published numerous articles in peer-reviewed medical and music therapy journals.
I enjoy singing in an à cappella choir, daily swimming, Tai Chi, and reading. My husband and I delight in our six young grandchildren. I am motivated to share my life’s lessons to help make a difference in the lives of others.
