Stephen Mercer, Ph.D.
I am known as Stephen to my friends and associates and welcome you do so. I currently live in a very rural part of Northwest Ohio where large crop farming operations abound. As a family, we have chosen to live here because of the lifestyle it affords. Our home is on a one acre lot but when you look any direction from our property you get the impression we own thousands of acres since we are surrounded by either soy beans, corn, or sometimes frozen land. We raise Shih Tzu puppies mostly as a hobby. Currently we have five adult dogs. We also have eight chickens that produce fresh eggs for us. This really is a hobby since our cost in having those eggs produced is about $20 per dozen when everything is considered. Our family is actively involved in community life including a local theater group, various school activities, and church. We have a motor home and enjoy vacations. We are all very actively involved with our local YMCA. I spend Monday through Friday from 5:30 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. working out. I have spent my entire professional career in education. For more than twenty years now I have held district level leadership positions. Leadership experiences excite me. I have been successful developing teams that have created and managed substantive change in schools. I believe positive organizational change in schools must focus on student learning and the teaching/learning process. I earned my bachelor's degree from Youngstown (Ohio) State University, my master's degree from Bowling Green State University (Ohio), and my Doctorate (Ph.D.) from Kent State University (Ohio). My doctoral work was in Education Administration.
