Stephanie Ferguson, PhD

Dr. Stephanie Ferguson has been teaching and working in the field of education for more than 25 years. Dr. Ferguson earned her B.S. in English Secondary Education from Millersville University of Pennsylvania, her M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Secondary Gifted Education from Southeastern Louisiana University, and her Ph.D. in Special Education from The University of Southern Mississippi. Dr. Ferguson was born and raised in Lancaster, Pennsylvania...if you've never had the pleasure of visiting the area, watch the movie Witness with Harrison Ford. Quite a bit of it was shot in her hometown. Of course, like many people, Dr. Ferguson did not appreciate the uniqueness of her upbringing while growing up there and moved away as quickly as possible to the place she considered to be the exact opposite -- New Orleans, Louisiana (the French Quarter, to be exact)! She did most of her middle school and high school teaching in southern Louisiana while earning her graduate degrees. Dr. Ferguson also made the transition from K-12 to higher education in Louisiana while returning to teach at Southeastern Louisiana University. A marriage moved her to Sierra Vista, Arizona in 2002, where she taught at Cochise College, the University of Phoenix (on ground in Tucson and online), and the University of Arizona South. Dr. Ferguson recently began a new chapter in her career by moving to Hobbs, New Mexico, where she is the Dean of Applied Sciences and Learning Technology at New Mexico Junior College. Her professional research interests include dual credit/early college high school programming, integrating the affective domain into online curricula, effective online teaching strategies, and the assessment and evaluation of online programming. She recently completed a second master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and earned her Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) credential.
