Robert A. Young, MAOM

Bob Young has achieved over twenty-five years of progressive experience leading people, programs, and activities in complex, high-risk environments. As a Senior Advisor for the Federal Aviation Administration, he oversees efforts associated with strategy, risk and engagement for the Office of Security and Hazardous Material Safety, monitoring national and global aviation systems to sustain national security endeavors accomplished through intergovernmental affairs, emergency operations, critical communications, and intelligence related activities. He presently serves on the Strategic Planning Committee for the Association of Federal Enterprise Risk Management (AFERM). Bob has provided senior leadership, program management, and operational expertise to organizations that include the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Capitol Police, and the National Aeronautics & Space Administration (NASA). He began his public service with the Philadelphia Police Department. Bob is an Assistant Professor with Western International University teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in the Department of Organizational Systems. He served as an instructor at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center teaching risk-based decision-making and legal authorities. Bob holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Services, Master of Arts Degree in Organizational Management, and an Advanced Graduate Certificate at the doctoral level in Business Administration. He attended the U.S. Army Management Staff College, U.S. Army Intelligence School, and completed the Senior Executive Fellows Program at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. Back at the Kennedy School in 2015, he attended the two-week roundtable for senior executives in national and international security where he, along with colleagues from 34 countries studied strategic security issues facing democratic governments around the globe. Bob publishes with a focus on practitioners and speaks frequently on topics relevant to strategy, risk and change, leadership, and organizational capacity-building. A native of Philadelphia (Pennsylvania), Bob and his wife Kristin reside in suburban Washington D.C. They enjoy spending time with grandchildren at the Delaware beach.
