Patricia Callow, PhD
My name is Patricia Callow, but I prefer to be called Pat. Born and raised on Long Island New York, I enjoy boating, diving and sports fishing. In my younger days, I was a member of a surfing and waterskiing team. My husband and I share our time between New York and Florida to be with our children and four grandchildren. We also enjoy traveling and have a goal of visiting every United States National Park. Photography is one of my hobbies and I have been named a Town of Oyster Bay (NY) Rotational Artist with a show of pictures from our National Parks. I earned my BS in Elementary Education from SUNY New Paltz, and from Hofstra University in New York an MA in Elementary Education and a PhD in Counseling, Psychology, and Research in Education. It was an honor to have my doctoral study sponsored by the New York State Education Department. I chose the topic, Adolescent Smoking Behavior, because of my deep interest in health education. With the publication of the journal article, Building a Better Toilet, this interest has expanded to include global health issues and education. As a teacher at the elementary, secondary, and college levels and building and district office administrator my interests, responsibilities, and efforts have included curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation. I have been a faculty member of the School of Advanced Studies for about ten years.
