Michael Novello, Ed D

I have been in education all my life as a teacher, administrator and consultant. I grew up and started my career in Brooklyn, NY and now I reside in Lakewood Ranch, FL. I began teaching high school math, working in student guidance, developing curriculum, and administering at a prep school. I worked there for 15 years. Thereafter, I spent the next 15 years as a Head of a pre-school (age 4) through twelfth grade School in the Quad-Cities of Iowa and Illinois before coming to Florida in 1998 to help start a new high school. Now I run my own private consultancy and deal mainly with issues of governance, professional development, and school improvement. I have consulted in the areas of governance, strategic thinking and planning and leadership. I have facilitated for the School of Advanced Studies at UoP for 11 years and have mentored several learners in their doctoral journeys. My greatest satisfaction is being able to address them as Dr. ___________. I earned my B. S. at Iona College (New Rochelle, NY), my masters in Math Education at Brooklyn College, an Advanced Humanities Certificate at Dartmouth, and my doctoral degree at Drake University in Educational Leadership. My dissertation was a qualitative study, The Dominant Images of School Administrators in Popular Film . My current research interests include organizational theory, behavior, and culture, school leadership, curriculum and instructional improvement and technologies, and effective communications. Because images create perceptions and more often than not perceptions are reality, I have an ongoing interest in the images created by media, especially film. Among my enthusiasms are Italian-American culture, travel, novels (especially 19th and 20th Century Literature), roller-coaster riding and cooking! Like many educators, including Marva Collins, I believe that students taught to succeed, will and I believe, like B.F. Skinner, that education is what’s left over after you’ve forgotten what you learned in school.
