Laura Brewer, Ph.D.

I came to University of Phoenix in 2013 as a Full-time Doctoral Research Faculty for the School of Advanced Studies (SAS) and then worked as the Assistant Dean, Research Protection from July, 2014 through May, 2108. I am now the Director of Research and the IRB at Saybrook University in California. I am a sociologist with nearly 20 years of experience in applied research, evaluation, and teaching. Most recently I worked as a research associate for a small evaluation firm conducting K-12 curriculum studies and evaluating large federal multi-site human services grant projects. Before that, I worked at Arizona State University as the Manager of Research and Evaluation for ASU Online where I designed projects to examine the impact of online learning on student outcomes, persistence and retention. I also led the research and evaluation efforts at the Applied Learning Technology Institute (alt^I) at Arizona State University where I developed and conducted studies to examine the effectiveness of technology-delivered educational programs. Prior to returning to Arizona State University in 2007, I worked as a Strategic Consultant for Sungard Higher Education and conducted research, evaluation and assessment projects at more than 20 colleges and universities across the nation. Throughout my applied research career, I have continued to teach college and university courses online. I earned both my M.A. and Ph.D in Sociology from Arizona State University and completed my undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Sociology at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
