John Avella, EdD

I was born in New Jersey but spent the primary years of my youth in Mass. returning to New Jersey during my high school years. I attended Trenton State College, Georgian Court College, and Nova Southeastern University culminating in my Doctoral Degree in 1999 in Education Administration. I spent over 30 years in public education beginning as a special education teacher, a vice-principal, principal, and superintendent retiring from public education in 2010. I have been with the University of Phoenix, School of Advanced Studies, since 2005. Along with my teaching duties for the School of Advanced Studies I serve as a dissertation committee member and chair. I also teach for the master's program in special education and supervise student teachers. I am an active member of the Center for Educational and Instructional Technology, have published peer-reviewed materials, and presently engaged in several new studies. I have 2 children, 2 step children, and 2 dogs. I enjoy sports and following the New York Yankees and the New York Giants, playing the piano, learning the guitar, reading, music, and travel.
