Jason Ward, wjason

I earned my doctorate in Child and Youth Studies with an emphasis in Curriculum Development. For the past 25 I have worked as a high school Spanish teacher, District Foreign Language Director, and university adjunct professor. My primary academic interests relate to second language acquisition, adolescent development, cultural diversity issues, and curriculum reform. These also serve as my primary research interests. Additional research interests include differentiated instruction, differentiated assessment, grading practices at the secondary level, teacher morale, teacher evaluations, child and youth issues, and academic achievement at the high school and college levels. I am proficient in both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. I have mentored over 70 doctoral learners to the completion of their respective dissertations and have served on over 100 other dissertation committees. I became interested in online education in the late 90’s. I found that online and web-based instruction was taking a foothold in the educational community and I began searching for possible opportunities to join quality (and established) programs. I have had the privilege of serving on the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (ACOG) of 1996 where I actively worked to educate educational institutions on the values and objectives of the Olympic Games. I was honored as the SMART Mentor of the Year for Phoenix Union High School District in 2003, and have recently received the Stephen Shank Award (2012) for outstanding contributions to education. On a personal note, I am married to a wonderful woman, Leonor, and have two dynamic and active sons. Roger is 25 and currently an airplane mechanic in the U.S. Army and John Paul, age 17, is active on his high school swim team. We love to go to the movies, travel, ride horseback, and we love extreme sports. Personally, I love high school and collegiate wrestling. I served as head coach of a local high school team for 20 years. I look forward to working with you. My goal is to make your experience here at UOP a pleasant one. Let me know how I can best meet your needs.
