Dr. Harris teaches a variety of classes, including finance, international business, writing, organizational behavior, operations management, and business research. Aside from teaching, Phil has a primary research interest in entrepreneurship, international business, and finance. Dr. Harris is passionate about the need for entrepreneurs because they contribute to economic growth and jobs. Dr. Harris published “How Social Benevolence Motivates Entrepreneurs” in the Journal of Strategic Innovation and Sustainability. In 2012, Dr. Harris wrote a chapter in the book, Life Skills Primer, edited by George W. Rideout. Dr. Harris wrote the third chapter, entitled, “The New Entrepreneur,” which focuses on entrepreneurial leadership skills.
Besides his interest in entrepreneurship, Dr. Harris recognizes that the business world of the 21st century resides in a global setting. Dr. Harris presented a paper in 2012 to the Academy of International Business, entitled, “Social Entrepreneurship as Justified by Globalization.” In addition to his interest in entrepreneurship and international business, Dr. Harris has an interest in helping people understand finance as a tool to make decisions. Dr. Harris has developed many YouTube videos to help people who want to learn finance.
Dr. Harris served as academic program director for the College of Business and administrator of the Institutional Review Board at Columbia Southern University. Dr. Harris has taught at the University of Phoenix for over 19 years and served as a mentor and subject matter expert. In addition to his teaching experience, Dr. Harris served as the chief financial officer of two other universities, Woodbury University and Finlandia University. Dr. Harris served as vice president of finance of a publicly held fastener manufacturer. Dr. Harris is also a serial entrepreneur and has started businesses in the sign, real estate, and consulting industries.
In addition to his work experience, Dr. Harris is a member of Delta Mu Delta honor society and the Academy of International Business. Dr. Harris has served as an editor for the International Journal of Emerging Markets and the Journal of International Business Studies.
Dr. Harris holds a Doctor of Business Administration, which he earned at the University of Phoenix. Besides his doctorate, Dr. Harris earned a Master of Business Administration degree in Finance from Keller Graduate School of Management and a Bachelor of Science in Business from Eastern Illinois University. Dr. Harris is a certified public accountant who scored in the 98th percentile on the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants aptitude test.
