Herman van Niekerk, PhD
Dr. Herman van Niekerk is the Associate Dean of Instruction for Business Doctoral Programs at the School of Advance Studies. His areas of subject matter expertise include knowledge management, organisational learning and intelligence, information management, strategy and critical thinking. He holds a PhD from the University of Stellenbosch where his research focused how different theories of knowledge impact on the creation of organisational knowledge and competitiveness. He has been for more than 15 years involved in action learning and management development programmes. He has an in-depth knowledge of what action learning is and how it develops leaders and organizations.
Until joining SAS as a permanent faculty Herman was a practicing consultant specialising in the strategic drivers which are shaping the knowledge society. These include how information and collaborative technology enable competitive strategic advantage. He serves as an external examiner and board member to a number of universities and private business schools. He is also a regular speaker at conferences on thought leadership issues related to the strategic development of organizations.
Herman’s research interests include the strategic and organizational development of organisations and their leadership and how emerging issues such as social networks, information optimization and knowledge creation and business foresight capabilities will enable organizations to face the emerging challenges of the new world of work.
