David Gary Tucker, EdD

Here is a short Bio Sketch. A military career, that began when I was 17, took me "around the world twice and to a county fair," from private to lieutenant colonel, with assignments in Alaska, Germany, Hawaii, Korea, Vietnam, and the continental United States. In all, I relocated 22 times and often left my family behind. Experiences as a military intelligence officer include several command, staff, and school assignments in electronic warfare, operations security, and training and development specialties. Commissioned from Infantry Officer Candidate School; integrated into the regular army while a lieutenant; selected for both the Command and General Staff College and the Armed Forces Staff College (graduate); and BA, MPA, and EdD degrees earned while on active duty. A divorce and empty nest coupled with a newly minted doctorate (EdD) was instrumental in deciding to leave the army and “try something new.” As a contracted consultant, I have been associated with the Center for Creative Leadership and Battelle Research Center (Seattle) providing leadership assessment/development training to participants in public and private organizations at several west coast sites and in Asia. Academic appointments include both faculty and leadership responsibilities at five universities, in the USA, Haiti, and Turkish Cyprus. Leadership consulting activities have taken me to several countries, but today, after two bouts with colon cancer, several surgeries, and chemotherapy; consulting is now accomplished long distance via the Internet and telephone. With the University of Phoenix since 2000, primarily in the School of Advanced Studies as a dissertation chair (so far have guided 10 students to completion of their doctorates), and with the School of Business, and now the College of Criminal Justice and Security, I facilitate communications, leadership, management, and public administration classes. My grown children have their own families, so it is just my faithful Shih Tzu "Too" and me here in Florida. Rediscovering my teenage passion for motorcycles about 10 years ago; I ride my current bike, a BMW R1200GS, whenever possible, and have made solo rides from Florida to the west coast visiting almost all of the national parks in the United States. As a volunteer, I teach English to immigrants through the local literacy council, and assist in rescuing dogs through Fur Baby Rescue.
