Colleen Rojas, PhD
I have a Ph.D. in Special Education and Rehabilitation Counseling. I have taught for varying online institutions since 2007 and am familiar with multiple online platforms. I understand the importance of being present in online courses and well as understanding the importance of maintaining and encourage student interaction through the use of the Socratic method in my teaching. While I was employed at UA, I was also a student in the Ph.D. program in the College of Education. I conducted my qualitative research with my own students at DRC and published my dissertation on the transition from high school to college for students with learning disabilities. I worked with university advisers and high school counselors to collaborate on transition concerns and I helped develop a wellness check-in program for college freshmen early in their first semester I also served as a consultant for the Arizona Department of Education Support Cadre, providing expert assistance to special education school personnel across the state; reviewing and awarding capacity building grants, working with the state transition department to develop a guide for transition for students with disabilities, and planning the ADE annual transition conference. I was a member of the inclusion advisory team (AZ Wins) and presented workshops at the AZ Wins inclusion symposium, and I was a presenter at the state special education directors’ conference. As a Ph.D. student at UA, I co-authored an article on focus group research for a peer-reviewed journal I have many years of diverse professional experience as an educator, teaching consultant, counselor, diagnostician, and learning supports coordinator.
