Nicole Bell, doctoral candidate in the SAS, is conducting a study of a Colorado school district has been deeplyl involved in leadership training in the areas of race, ethnicity, and culture since 2003. I served as one of the trainers of "Beyond Diversity" when the project began and have followed Nicole's work ever since then. The district requires training for leaders and staff at the district, school, and individual levels so that increased student achievement across all grades is increased.

This multi-embadded case study investigates the perspective of effective elementary school principals in Harvest Blossom School District who narrowed the race-based academic achievement gap in reading by increasing their knowledge, skills, and leadership practices. The unique and ongoing nature of required training at the district, school, and individual levels on race, ethnicity, and culture, are producing leaders who use specific leadership strategies to increase student achievement.
