The prevalence of depression has been continuing to increase today. The purpose of this qualitative narrative inquire research study was to examine stories and experiences from registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) who worked in behavioral health and identify common nutrient deficiencies and barriers they face when treating clients with depression. The objective of this study was to determine best practice when treating clients with depression and provide that practice to mental health providers and RDNs who work outside of behavioral health. The study involved collecting and analyzing data from seven RDNs who actively or previously worked with patients with depression. Four themes emerged from the findings of this study. The results revealed that the major barrier that RDNs face was the lack of motivation they see in clients.
