Webinar with SAS Alumni Dr. Kristi Burtis
On Monday, June 25, 2018 at 4pm (Arizona / Pacific time), the SAS Alumni Special Interest Group and the Center for Educational and Instructional Technology Research (CEITR) will sponsor a webinar featuring Dr. Kristi Burtis so she can discuss how obtaining her doctorate has influenced her professional life and helped her contribute to the community.
Dr. Kristi Burtis obtained her doctorate degree of management in organizational leadership in January of 2018. Her research focused on the influence of social media content on a zoological organization utilizing a qualitative intrinsic case study design. Upon receiving her degree, SeaWorld San Diego colleagues, Council Woman Lorie Zapf, Zoological Leader Jack Hannah, and Chelsea’s Light Foundation delivered congratulatory messages to honor Dr. Burtis as a “Changemaker.” Dr. Burtis received a master’s degree in human behavior and management from National University where she conducted a qualitative study on experiential learning. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology and biology from San Diego State University and her associate’s degree in animal sciences and is a registered veterinary technician and belongs to the National Veterinarian Technician Association.
Dr. Burtis is passionate about education, influencing change, and conservation and research to learn more and protect wildlife. For 30 years, Dr. Burtis has been an Ambassador for SeaWorld. As a supervisor in the animal training department at Sea World San Diego, she oversees a staff of twenty animal trainers and the training, research, and well-being of ten killer whales.
Dr. Burtis also has experience with dolphins, pilot whales, sea lions, seals, walrus, otters, exotic birds, horses, llamas, emus, and others. In addition, she also worked in the rescue program and assisted in the care and release of an orphaned gray whale calf in 1992 and rehabilitated a four-month-old dolphin in 1994, both of which required 24-hour care.
