Collaborative Innovative Leadership: A New 21st Century Leadership Model

Collaborative Innovative Leadership: A New 21st Century Leadership Model

As the challenges of 21st century are ever presenting new arenas for innovation in business, there exists a need for leaders who will brave the reinvention of corporate leadership. The old models of pyramid based hierarchies are crumbling and rooted in their place are novel concepts of what leadership means in a new century. From my study of corporate culture, necessary and new needed leadership models are rising where business ventures move faster than digital data flowing limitlessly around the globe. Surprising notions such as CEO as Design leader, Unleadership and Founders as CEOs are pushing forth in the most strategic and successful realms of the corporate world. What do they all share beyond phenomenal success and attention to their most profitable demographic base?   A strong appreciation for Design Thinking and its practice from the CEO to the mailroom.

Each new leadership concept will be discussed in this blog in the coming days, but one new leadership is briefly highlighted here; Collaborative Innovative Leadership, (CIL), (Mickahail & Andrews, 2015). Below is an excerpt from the new eChapter, Collaborative Innovative Leadership and Emerging Social Media Technologies,  which is found in The Refractive Thinker®: Vol. IX Effective Business Practices in Leadership and Emerging Technologies (2015).

The use of social media is undoubtedly a strategic direction for business. The reasons for business use of social media proliferate with the latest innovations on the market in each business cycle. As digital consumers continue to anticipate and learn in the rapidly changing world of emerging social media technologies and related inventions, the business world must also embrace new forms of leadership to blaze the trail of invention and discovery in this challenging era. Strategic collaboration for innovation is demanded in the global economy where differing goals are brought into focus through virtual work teams and executives placed around the world.

Collaborative Innovative Leadership is a new leadership model, which is born of necessity as new technologies enable collaborative business processes to forge a novel generation of creative business leaders. This chapter provides a perspective of the collaborative nature of the business world. In addition, the researchers examine the evolution of Collaborative Innovative Leadership that has emerged through the growth of social media technologies. This research highlights the fusion and transformative power of 21st century innovation processes.

If you want to know more about this new leadership model, please feel free to read more. You will discover how Collaborative Innovative Leadership (CIL) is an extension of the Senge’s Five Disciplines.. CIL is flourishing from modern collaboration approaches of Design Thinking in new 21st century corporate culture. Collaborative Innovation Leadership can be considered Senge’s Sixth Discipline. What implications do new leadership approaches have in a corporate setting? As we become more familiar with the implementation of Design Thinking strategies and how they impact corporate culture, new discoveries await.
