Family members assume multiple roles to insure a relative with dementia receives personal care, medical services, and psycho-emotional and psychosocial care performing tasks frequently perceived as troublesome or difficult.  Technology supports a positive new role for family members, who often used iPad, iPods, headphones, splitters, and other technical devices to share preferred, culturally relevant, digitized music with relatives with dementia.  Sharing familiar music enhanced memories and interactive opportunities where family members connected, and communicated with aging relatives who had dementia.  Family members, who provided familiar music for their relative with dementia reported personal benefits, new positive memories and transformed beliefs about the disease and loved one.  Educational leaders have an opportunity to recognize and introduce the importance of culture in music education and other curriculums.  Teaching technological skills and a new awareness of music could support lifetime access to culturally valued music in face-to-face or virtual contexts.
