IRB Corner: Worksheet for IRB Applicants

IRB Corner: Worksheet for IRB Applicants

In this month’s IRB Corner, we want to discuss a new resource, which will be available in early April 2018, to support researchers through the IRB process, the WORKSHEET for IRB Applicants.  We understand that the IRB review process can be a hurdle for researchers.  Researchers who present a clearly and concisely written plan of their research, with the necessary supplemental documents, are most likely to receive an efficient review.  On the other hand, researchers who present an incomplete, unclear, or inconsistent plan of their research, or who leave off important supplemental documents, are most likely to be delayed in the process.  The WORKSHEET for IRB Applicants will be a new resource available to researchers to support their preparation of a complete IRB project in IRBNet.

The first step for researchers developing a project in IRBNet is to read the READ ME FIRST document, which walks researchers through the IRB process and introduces researchers to guidance materials, templates and forms. The WORKSHEET outlines research considerations that involve the protection of human subjects. In particular, the WORKSHEET drills down to explain the importance of specific guidance materials related to 1) recruitment, 2) informed consent, 3) data collection and 4) data management.

The WORKSHEET for IRB Applicants is meant to support researchers as they complete the IRB application form and put together the collection of supplementary documents for IRB review.  Again, the better prepared the IRB application, the quicker the IRB review process. Look for the WORKSHEET for IRB Applicants, which will be available in early April 2018, in the IRBNet Forms and Templates library, from the left menu when you login to IRBNet (http://irbnet.org).

After reviewing the READ ME FIRST and other guidance documents, templates, and forms are available in the IRBNet Forms and Templates library, if you have any questions, please contact The University of Phoenix IRB Office at IRB@phoenix.edu
