Recovering Language One: Building Academic Language Proficiencies for Dual Language Teacher Candidates Using Professional Learning Communities

Abstract:

This research snapshots the labor of pre-service dual language teachers to recover Spanish language proficiency as they move through a cohort model program, and discusses one program’s efforts to help recover first language skills through the creation and development of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), mentoring experiences, electronic portfolios, and simulated BTLPT testing.
