Ruth Benjamin-Wardle: Discovering her Chickasaw Heritage

This article describes the journey of discovery of an African American women who grew up in Kansas City. She experienced colorist while growing up, but always hung onto the belief that she was Native American. In 2006 she became an official member of the Chickasaw Tribe.

Abstract: 

Ruth Benjamin-Wardlle was a typical Black child who grew up in Kansas City. Because of her dark skin, she experienced colorism. However, she held onto a belief that she was Native American. This article describes her journey of becoming a member of the Chickasaw Tribe.
