Boys and the need for Goodness of Fit

This article serves as an introduction to the book, Oh Boy! Strategies for Teaching Boys in Early Childhood. As such, it presents the many reasons why young boys struggle in our early childhood programs and elementary schools, and then provides several suggestions for addressing this problem. A variety of approaches, from discipline and curriculum to instruction and the use of the outdoors are covered.

Abstract: 

Young boys in our early childhood programs and schools struggle to be successful. Reasons are many, including a miss-match between the unique needs of how boys develop, grow, and learn, and the environment, discipline approaches, and instructional methods used with young boys. A variety of ways to address this problem are provided.
