The sycamore readers: Partnering with nonprofits to help struggling readers

Abstract: 

The authors explain a tutoring program in which university students partner with the local
public library to assist elementary-level struggling readers in the community to become
better readers. rough such service learning and volunteerism, tutors increase their teaching
skills and confidence. Outcomes for those tutored include increased reading levels and increased
enjoyment of reading.
