Professional Bio: 
Dr. Jane Schumacher has been actively involved in teaching organizational development and executive leadership for over forty-seven years. In her direct service to school districts, she has served children as a teacher, principal, curriculum director, assistant superintendent, deputy superintendent, and consultant. Dr. Schumacher works as an organizational and executive leadership consultant on Maui and across Hawai`i. She consults with nonprofit organizations, schools, and businesses and assists their boards and executives leaders in organizational goal setting, strategic planning, board training, marketing, and human and financial resource development. Her special interest in race, ethnicity, and culturally appropriate leadership, challenges clients to examine their own assumptions and to expand their thinking in those areas. Dr. Schumacher is a Hawaiian studies cultural practitioner and studies Hawaiian language and hula.

Nicole Bell, doctoral candidate in the SAS, is conducting a study of a Colorado school district has been deeplyl involved in leadership training in the areas of race, ethnicity, and culture since 2003.  I served as one of the trainers of "Beyond Diversity" when the project began and have followed Nicole's work ever since then. The district requires training for leaders and staff at the district, school, and individual levels so that increased student achievement across all grades is increased.  This case study examines one school leader and faculty who have increased student achievement in reading as a result of this training and the leadership strategies employed by the principal.  She and I will be presenting her findings at the Hawai'i International Conference on Education in 2018 (in progress).

Nicole Bell, SAS Doctoral Candidate, has a ground breaking study that will impact school principals who are interested in learning leadership practices that increase the race based academic achievement gap.  Nicole and I will be presenting her results at the Hawaii International Conference on Education in 2018.

This research project is being conducted by a UOP doctoral student, Nicole Bell and is supported by my work as her Chair and previous trainer of "Beyond Diversity" in her school district.  Nicole's study examines specific leadership strategies used to increase race based academic achievement.  She and I will be presenting her findings at the Hawai'i International Conference on Education 2018.

Nicole Bell, doctoral candidate, has the courage to explore how elementary principals' leadership strategies can increase race based academic achievement of students.  Her own exploration of racial consciousness and understanding of Critical Race Theory impacted her decision to research this topic.  This research will add to the literature in an area previously not explored.

Nicole Bell, doctoral candidate in the SAS, has the courage to explore one of the most challenging topics in our society - racial consciousness and how racial consciousness impacts school leadership strategies to increase race base based student achievement scores.  Nicole's work will add evidence to the field in a topic not typically addressed by other researchers.
