Dr. Kimberly Underwood, University Research Chair

Dr. Underwood brings a wealth of experience to our organization, including almost two decades of experience in diversity and inclusion education, research, and management within academia and government. She has served in the roles of Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Policy, Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and Policy, and Chairperson of Doctoral Studies. She possesses over ten year of higher education teaching experience and has earned the ranks of facilitator, adjunct professor, assistant professor, and associate professor. She is highly skilled in teaching in face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats and has taught doctoral and graduate-level courses. Dr. Underwood has been with University of Phoenix since 2009 as an Associate Faculty.

Dr. Underwood credits her position in municipal government as the catalyst for a career focus in diversity and inclusion. Within municipal government, her duties included functioning as a senior executive responsible for providing workplace diversity and inclusion consulting, planning, and educational programming to a workforce of over 23,000 employees, sister agencies, universities and community colleges, and community organizations. Her responsibilities also included the management of workforce development initiatives, including educational programming design, curriculum development, marketing, funding, and program facilitation.

Dr. Underwood’s service record includes leadership and advisory positions within several professional and community organizations. Her publications and presentations address diversity onboarding, diversity management, and supporting diversity within K-12 and higher education. Her research interests include critical multiculturalism and organizational diversity socialization in business settings. Her most recent research projects have focused on the infusion of diversity-related social events into curricula and the role of higher education in effectively developing social responsibility and citizenry. Dr. Underwood earned her Ph.D. in Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago and an MBA from the Illinois Institute of Technology.She is also certified in Strategic Diversity and Inclusion Management from Georgetown University.

Dr. Bobbie Murray, Associate Research Chair

Dr. Murray is a practitioner in the field of Industrial-Organizational Psychology and currently serves as a Director of Staff for the United States Air Force.  In her current role, Dr. Murray is the human capital optimization consultant and strategic advisor to the installation commander at Kirtland Air Force Base, Albuquerque, New Mexico, a complex, multi-mission military installation serving the nuclear, space, and research community.  She is a retired Army lieutenant colonel and combat veteran with fourteen years of experience in online and on-ground university instruction.  As an Associate Professor for the United States Army Command and General Staff College, Dr. Murray facilitated courses in Advanced Research Methods and Oral Defense while serving as a thesis committee chair/member.  As the Human Protections Administrator for the college, she spearheaded the Institutional Review Board and was responsible for social and behavioral science research compliance.  As a faculty development trainer for the college, Dr. Murray designed, developed, and implemented training programs using adult learning methodologies and best practices.

Dr. Murray began her career with the University of Phoenix in 2008 as an adjunct faculty member in the business department facilitating courses in Finance.  She completed her PhD in Industrial-Organizational Psychology with the University of Phoenix in 2018.  Her other degrees include a Master of Science in Organizational Psychology from the University of Phoenix and three other degrees from Sam Houston State University, Huntsville, Texas – a Master of Science in Finance, a Bachelor of Business Administration in International Business, and a Bachelor of Art in German.  Dr. Murray presently facilitates graduate courses in Finance and Economics for the University of Phoenix. Her research interests include identity, conformity, contingencies of self worth, ethnography, and consumer behavior.  Dr. Murray specializes in recruitment, selection and placement, training and development, performance measurement, workplace motivation and reward systems, quality of work life, the structure of work and human factors, and organizational development to include strategic planning design and execution.
