Drs. Niekerk and Conrad Accepted to Present at the Tobias Leadership Conference in April 2017

Dr. van Niekerk, Associate Dean of Instruction Doctoral Business Programs, was accepted by the Tobias Center for Excellence in Leadership to present at the Tobias Leadership Conference at the University of Indiana, Indianapolis for April 20-21, 2017. The abstract, “REAL Leadership - A Practical Guide for 21st Century Leaders,” has been accepted for presentation at Indiana University’s Leadership Engagement and Discovery Conference.

Dr. Kelley Conrad, dissertation chair for the Industrial Organizational Psychology program, co-authored.

Abstract:

This presentation will focus on four specific 21st Century leadership domains; Relational effectiveness, Environmental awareness, Action-orientation, and Learning continually, all integrated into our REAL leadership framework. Exploring current thought literature on leadership and using examples, we will show how leaders can use social media to build networks and establish Relational effectiveness to exert both power and legitimacy through attracting followers, adopting team strategies, and sharing power.

Dr Herman J. van Niekerk (Main presenter)

Dr. van Niekerk is Associate Dean of Instruction Doctoral Business Programs, University of Phoenix School of Advanced Studies.  He is an experienced educator and business practitioner with a global experience in higher education and development of working professionals across cultures. He has worked at the United Nations and was involved with a private business school in Europe with campuses in Africa and Asia. He is an expert in educational methodologies with a deep knowledge of action learning and its application in the development of leaders. He regular participates in business management conferences with a specific interest in strategic leadership and business foresight.

Co-Author – Kelley A. Conrad

Dr. Conrad is the Doctoral Program Faculty for Industrial Organizational Psychology, University of Phoenix School of Advanced Studies.  He is co-author of two books: The Handbook of Psychological Assessment in Business, and Current Perspectives in Industrial-Organizational Psychology. He is the author and editor of the leading chapter, Diversity across Cultures, in the forthcoming book, Diversity and Inclusion in the Global Workplace: Aligning Initiatives with Strategic Business goals.  Twelve of his papers have been published in professional journals.  He has presented 26 papers at professional conferences.  Dr. Conrad has also completed many projects for various organizations as a consultant and is a licensed I-O Psychologist in Wisconsin.
