What Successful Female CEOs Have in Common

Globally only 9% of women are in senior roles (senior management, CEOs or managing directors). A study of the leadership journey of 12 female CEOs (and 139 male CEOs) identified 5 behaviors common to these successful female leaders.  1) Own your ambition, see yourself as a leader. 2) Don’t wait to be asked. Proactively seek stretch assignments before you are completely ready for the job. (These CEOs enjoy risk-taking.) 3) Do not expect outside support (at home or at work) make choices and develop networks. Surprisingly, these CEOs used networks to improve at their current job (while men network to get a better job) 4) Focus on the long-term goal – take time off when you need it and return to work when you are able (men were less positive about stepping away) 5) Develop a well-rounded leadership style
