Co-Presenting with Graduated Doctoral Student

Co-Presenting with Graduated Doctoral Student

This is a description of a co-presentation done by a graduated UoP doctoral student and her dissertation chair.

A recently graduated doctoral student and I co-presented a webinar, May 3, 2018, entitled: Mentoring Satisfaction Found in Diverse Professions. We were featured speakers for the International Mentoring Association (IMA); this organization’s aims proved to be a good match for our topic! The presentation compared and contrasted: Formal mentoring programs and informal mentoring programs, education mentoring programs and government/business mentoring initiatives, racially diverse mentoring pairs, relational satisfaction, quantitative research and qualitative research, and research results combined with practical experience. The content of the presentation focused upon both of our dissertations and personal experiences with mentoring. IMA representatives said that we had the largest audience they ever had had for a webinar. After the presentation, my graduated mentee was asked to present at one of IMA’s upcoming conferences! I felt that she and I had experienced some of the Scholar-Practitioner-Leader model that UoP would like to see happening!

Congratulations to you and your student Dr. Williams! It is good to hear of your work at IMA and this shows a wonderful example of how a Chair can help facilitate doctoral students and doc alumni professional development!

Dr. Rominger,

Thank you for your kind words! This was the first time I had presented with a UoP student. I do not think she had ever presented at a professional conference (originally we had submitted to present at the IMA spring conference and it got cancelled). She was very thrilled and that made me feel that the effort was worth the work. Again, thank you for replying to my blog.
