Abstract

Competitive advantage is often used to create an interlink between marketing and strategy that adds value to customers, however, doctoral learners are an integral component of creating such value-added competitiveness for universities and organizations. This paper will discuss or review the literature on competitive advantages of doctoral learners obtaining degrees in educational administration; the intent is to provide an exploration of knowledge, marketability and comparative advantage in the international marketplace. A firm’s competitive advantage is associated with characteristics of rareness, value-added, and performance driven as a competitive advantage is related to rareness performance (Newbert, 2008). Knowledge management from doctoral learners is important in obtaining a strategic advantage. An extensive literature review of 61 articles was conducted using Cooper’s Taxonomy (1998) guidelines for analyzing and synthesizing literature (Cooper, 1988). Cooper’s outlines involved five stages (1) formulating the problem, (2) collecting data, (3) evaluating data appropriateness, (4) analyzing and interpreting relevant data, and (5) organizing and presenting the results. This scoping historical literature review explores the competitive advantages of doctoral learners obtaining degrees in educational administration.
