Dissertation to Publication Workshop Five Years Impact

Dissertation to Publication (DTP) Workshop was established on January of 2017 with the mission of teaching the art of developing a publishable manuscript based on a dissertation. The tangible outcome of the workshop is to help the participants generate and submit their manuscripts to peer-reviewed academic journals. The workshop is four months long and offered twice per year. Certificate of completion is awarded to the participants who submit their manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals by end of the four-month long workshop. The workshop has had many successes since its establishment four and a half years ago as evidenced by the data. Under the leadership of Dr. Mansureh Kebritchi and her cadre of manuscript reviewers, DTP workshop has resulted in 514 participants completing the development of 474 manuscripts and submitting to peer-reviewed academic journals (See Table I.). That means, 474 UOPX doctoral dissertations within the last four and a half years, averaged more than 100 dissertations per year, have been turned into manuscripts and submitted to peer-reviewed journals as a result of the workshop. The submission references for some of the manuscripts can be seen here.

The largest group of the workshop participants to complete and thus submit their manuscripts are UOPX doctoral alumni, following with doctoral students, faculty, and staff. Some of the doctoral alumni and students attend the workshop along with their chairs and committee members. This provides an opportunity for faculty to publish with their students and continue their scholarly relation beyond their students’ graduation. Workshop participants anecdotally report that the workshop content, structure, and communication with their reviewers are significant factors in their completion and submittal to peer-reviewed journals. The participants’ reflections and testimonials can be seen here.
